On Saturday, November 21, 2009, ACLC New Jersey clergy gathered for their monthly ACLC Prayer Breakfast at St. Mark AME Church, in East Orange, New Jersey. The host pastor Rev. Archie Cummings, warmly welcomed everyone. Then a prayer was offered and breakfast was served. Davis Eaton, the MC, gave a brief history of Rev. Levy Daugherty, the Executive Advisor of the American Clergy Leadership Conference. Mr. Eaton mentioned that Rev. Daugherty had been involved with ACLC since its inception. Rev. Daugherty uplifted the atmosphere with his rendition of “Its Your Season.” Many participants joined in on the chorus. It was an old familiar song which made everyone feels comfortable. Afterwards, Rev. Daugherty asked for 3 volunteers to read the Bible Quotes for the speech.
The focus of his speech was directed toward the family, in particular, the relationship of husbands and wives. He gave many examples of how bad relationships between husbands and wives influenced the relationships of their children as they became adults. Parents, who have healthy relationships as husbands and wives, set good models for the future relationships of their children as married couples. Then Rev. Daugherty commissioned everyone to work hard to improve their relationships with their spouses, for the sake of their family. He expressed that, if we don’t work on it now, in the near future of the institution of the family will in jeopardy. Many clergy commented that they liked his sermon style and powerful message. It was a strong reminder of the importance of putting family as a priority in our lives if we want to succeed in creating God’s Kingdom on this earth.
The choir was beautiful compliment to the Keynote address. The songs brought down the Holy Spirit and opened the hearts of the participants to receive the message. Rev. Cummings liked the choir so much that he asked if they could come back another time to play for one of their services. He said everything was wonderful, the choir, the message and the spirit of the Prayer Breakfast.
