“Women of all Faiths, Races Join Together to Empower our Community”
Our first Women In Ministry prayer breakfast on April 16th brought together 24 participants of all ages. Titled “Women of all Faiths, Races Join Together to Empower our Community,” it started with introductions of all attendees, and then Cresencia Hincles, representing university women students, spoke powerfully on how important it is to keep strong ties between local university students and community. She was followed by the keynote speaker, Rev. Barbara Thompson, president of Pastors Wives’ Association of Philadelphia, who spoke about the critical role of women leadership in the community. Afterwards, Sister Felicia Scott, a youth minister, spoke strongly about need for moral education for youth in our community.
For the next 20 minutes participants divided into two groups to discuss topics such as “how can women empower this community,” “How can women in all faith and races join together.” Everybody was totally engaged in discussion and 20 min was too short to even finish the first topic. A representative from each group gave a 2-min summary of their discussions. The main conclusions reached were:
1) Provide mentorship for older and younger
2) Meet women where they are
3) Be consistent
4) Use our resources (Technology, recreational centers, churches)
5) Be real and transparent
6) Focus on soul
7) Volunteer activities for community
8) Show love
