Our Founders
Born in what is now North Korea, and having experienced war firsthand, Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon and Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, affectionately known as Father and Mother Moon, have built a legacy of peace and reconciliation centering on a family movement.
On the eve of Easter Sunday 1935 at the young age of 15, Father Moon encountered Jesus on a Korean mountainside and was called to a public life of ministry. Since then, Father Moon together with his precious wife, Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, have established an international movement in pursuit of building God’s Kingdom on Earth. They founded hundreds of organizations, institutions, and projects for world peace; including the American Clergy Leadership Conference.
Through the Marriage Blessing Ceremony, Father and Mother Moon were the trendsetters of intercultural and international marriage, bringing couples together across national and racial borders. With the understanding that the family is the cornerstone for world peace, they developed the education of true family values. Father and Mother Moon strongly wished that all people be brought together centered on God, engrafting their lives substantially in God’s family. For this purpose they dedicated their life.
Since Father Moon’s passing, Mother Moon has focused her leadership on continuing to strengthen the foundation within Christianity. She has encouraged believers to come into unity, beyond doctrine and denomination. Declaring her identity as God’s Only Begotten Daughter, she continues to challenge Christian leaders to elevate their purpose, fulfill their God-given mission, receive the Blessing, and become one with her in building One Family Under God.
